Day 2 –Nairobi -Tsavo
Safarilink schedule or private charter to the Chyulu Hills from Wilson airport in the morning where you will be met by your guides, Patrick and Nicola, who will be accompanying you for the next five days. After lunch and a siesta you can go for an afternoon ride to choose your horses and get a feel for them and the terrain. The first evening is usually spent in the comfort of Ol Donyo Wuas lodge.
Ol Donyo Wuas lies in the foothills of the Chyulu Range, halfway between Tsavo and Amboseli in a concession area of 300,000 acres, communal Masai owned land, which is also part of the Amboseli eco-system.
The open plains, rolling Chyulu Hills and snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro invoke images of Africa as it was in the earlier part of the last century; abundant game and Masai herdsmen living as nature determined they should in this unspoilt corner of Kenya.
The lodge consists of eight cottages and a beautiful, centrally positioned mess/dining room. All cottages have en-suite bathrooms, electric lighting and a veranda with panoramic views of the plains and Mount Kilimanjaro.
Richard and Anna Vivian are your hosts and a friendly crew of Kenyans is there to organize the daily activities, to ensure everything runs smoothly, and to provide high standards of cuisine and personal service.

Situated on the side of the Nguruman escarpment, the lodge is positioned ideally to make the most of both an incredible view and the cool breeze.
Shompole Lodge is the figurehead of a partnership between a private safari company and the Maasai of Shompole Group Ranch aimed at encouraging the conservation of wildlife and habitat of the area. The area is home to many species of animals and bird life and includes one of the most ecologically diverse areas in Africa.
Shompole’s 6 rooms, 4 doubles and 2 twins all are en-suite, are constructed with naturally occurring white quartz stone and pale thatch. With privacy, comfort and relaxation in mind, each room consists of a cool-pool and informal sitting area, a bathroom with a view and a specially designed tent bedroom that includes vast windows and a high-canopied roof. The main lounge and dining area are of a high thatch roof overlooking Mount Shompole and the Great Rift Valley. Five minutes walk away further up the hill, Little Shompole has 2 executive suites both en-suite.

A different safari camp!
Basecamp Masai Mara is different from most other places in Africa due to our close cooperation with the Maasai. Our cultural and social commitment and the environmental work we do at the camp and in its surroundings all serve to offer you access to stimulating conversation, unanticipated experiences and true wisdom.
Basecamp is first and foremost a place to relax and explore, but it is also a meeting place where you can become involved at a far deeper level. Here, you are more than a guest.
When you arrive at Masai Mara and meet the colorful people, experience the incredible wildlife, the wide open savannah and the sound of a hundred thousand gnus on the move, you know in your heart that this is one of the most special places left on the planet.
Ecotourism
This is a place we, together with the Maasai, help to protect; through ecological operation -such as the use of dry toilets, recycling of waste, solar energy and similar methods -as well as through substantial support for important community projects.
Close to the Maasai People
Our Maasai friends are an unforgettable part of the Basecamp experience. Surrounded by wild animals, a walk through the bush in the company of a watchful Masai warrior offers a unique opportunity of getting close to nature.
Day 7-9: Maasai Mara
Spend full days in Masai mara with game drives and other activities as provided by the camp. Activities are done at an extra cost. See some of the activities below.
